Arizona State Tax Credits

A gift to Chaparral Students at NO cost to you!

Give the gift of education by redirecting your state tax liability to Chaparral students. When you participate in the Arizona tax credit program, you will not only receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on your Arizona taxes, but you will also be providing essential funding for tutoring, extracurricular activities, testing, and field trips at Chaparral High School. The best part? Anyone can do it - alumni, grandparents, neighbors, friends!

Anyone who pays Arizona taxes can redirect their tax liability to a public school. Married couples can redirect any amount up to $400 and individual taxpayers can redirect up to $200.

It's a win-win situation for you and the school!

How Does Chaparral Use Tax Credit Funds?

The State of Arizona has very specific guidelines about how Tax Credit funding can be used. Permitted programs include tutoring, field trips, enrichment and athletic programs, standardized testing, and career and technical education.

Chaparral's General Fund is administered by Chaparral's Site Council, a group of parents, faculty and staff, and community members who meet monthly to review funding requests.

Recently funded programs at Chaparral include:

  • Free, on-campus tutoring before and after school and at lunch
  • Gardening Club campus beautification program
  • Chaparral Robotics Tournaments
  • Marching Band Performance/Workshop Field Trip
  • Orchestra and Choir trip to New York City
  • Advanced Art Class Museum trip to Los Angeles
  • Transportation for Chaparral Theatre festival
  • Transportation for Chaparral's Science Olympiad Team, participating in the Casteel Invitational

How Do I Claim My Credit?

Contributions to the Chaparral General Fund can be made by cash, check, or online. Recurring online payments are now an option as well.

Your contribution must be received online by April 15, 2023. Contributions received from January 1, 2022 thru April 15, 2023 can be claimed on your Arizona State tax return for either 2022 OR 2023.

Please print and fill out the Tax Credit Form (Formulario del Credito Tributario) if you are paying by cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Scottsdale Unified School District and can be mailed directly to the school or to the Education Center located at 7575 E. Main Street, AZ 85251. Chaparral's CTDS Code (needed for AZ Tax Form 322) is 070248295

I've already paid participation fees for athletics or standardized testing with tax credit dollars, but I didn't spend my family's full $400.  Can I donate the rest?

Yes, absolutely! Even if you have already made some payments using tax credits, you can make a donation for the balance to the Chaparral General Fund and claim your full credit!

What’s the catch? Having the State of Arizona give me a tax credit for a donation I make to a school seems too good to be true.

There is no catch! Your donation to Chaparral's General Fund will cost you absolutely nothing out of pocket. People who pay Arizona tax on their income in excess of the amount they choose to donate are really initiating a donation to the school from the State treasury. The only inconvenience is that you must make your donation by April 15th for the prior tax year, and you will not have your tax credit (reduced tax bill or tax refund) until you file your Arizona State tax return.

Can you help me spread the word to my friends, family, and neighbors?

Yes! Here's a sample letter and a social media graphic that you can use to to explain the program and how to donate! If your student has participated in a tax credit-funded program like tutoring, robotics, or a field trip, you can personalize it to explain how its affected their high school experience!
